Sub-Programme 5(b): Support for a Disaster Management Information Network – DMIN
Component 5b (Disaster Management Information Network – DMIN) extends the funding of the Disaster Management Information Network to implement an end-to-end information network that links the Disaster Management Information Centre (DMIC) portal with local institutions and urban and rural community users exposed to an identified subset of risks. The designers of CDMP conceived the establishment of a DMIC to collect, analyze and disseminate information for risk reduction and emergency response. The scope of this component includes implementation of a communication network to link the DMIC with government agencies and NGOs concerned with disaster management at the regional, national and local levels, and with community members, to support hazard risk reduction, emergency response planning, early warning generation and dissemination, and community education and awareness programmes. The Component 5b was seen as an opportunity to apply the infrastructure provided by Component 5a to establish instances of DMIC-to-community communication of specific hazards to specific locations. Therefore, the EC support extends the current DMIN district-level connectivity down to 235 upazila-level Disaster Management Committees, providing early feedback and lessons learned to implement better disaster management services in a wider range of hazards.
